CONrad Schnitzler, one of the founders of the "ZODIAK Free Arts Lab / ZODIAC" and an early member of Tangerine Dream, passed away on August 4, 2011, at the age of 74. CONrad Schnitzler, einer der Begründer des "ZODIAK Free Arts Lab / ZODIAC" und ein frühes Mitglied von Tangerine Dream, starb am 4. August 2011 im Alter von 74 Jahren.

* Renée Zucker (Journalistin, ex "Witthüser&Westrupp") kocht als Gastköchin des WAU: es gibt KRAUTwickel ...

* Ab ca. 18.30 Uhr: Filmprojektion über Beamer / gezeigt werden eine Krautrock-Doku, sowie der Zodiak-Film von 1969 von Dietmar Buchmann.

* Live-Auftritt MYTHOS (!)
Hinter diesem Namen verbirgt sich der Berliner Elektronikmusiker Stephan Kaske. "Mythos" wurde 1969 von ihm gegründet und hat auf dem berühmten Krautrock-Plattenlabel "Ohr" 1972 eine erste Platte mit kosmisch-psychedelischer Musik veröffentlicht, die zu den wichtigsten Schallplattenveröffentlichungen des Genres zählt. Eine weitere Veröffentlichung erschien 1975 als Produkt der mittlerweile verschollenen Kosmischen Kuriere Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser und Gille Lettmann. Mit "Mythos" ist es gelungen eine authentische Berühmtheit des elektronischen Krautrock für einen Auftritt im WAU/Ex-Zodiac zu gewinnen.

* An diesem Tag zeigen wir dort außerdem eine Installation mit großformatigen Abzügen von Fotos, die Detlef Krenz vor 40 Jahren vor Ort aufgenommen hat.

* Am Sonntag werden tagsüber als Soundkulisse bekanntere und unbekanntere Perlen des Krautrock/ProgRock präsentiert.

* very special guest cook at the kitchen: Renée Zucker (Journalist, ex-"Witthueser&Westrupp") will serve her delicious, selfmade KRAUTwickels ...

* starting at around 6.30pm - movie-beamer projection showing a Krautrock-documentary as well as the original short Zodiak-movie filmed by Dietmar Buchmann in 1969

* Live on stage: MYTHOS (!)
Mythos is the "brainchild" of the berlin elektronic musician Stephan Kaske.
Kaske founded Mythos in 1969, and in 1972 the group debuted on the famous Ohr-record label with an album of cosmic-psychedelic music that is among the most-important records of the genre. Their 1975 release has been produced by legendary COSMIC COURIERS Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser, and Gille Lettmann aka Starmaiden.
In presenting Mythos live at the WAU/ZODIAC, Krautopia once again succeed in re-introducing an authentic personality of original german Krautrock back to public attention.

* Furthermore, an installation with large-sized copies of photographies by Detlef Krenz will give impressions of the original former ZODIAK free arts lab, the very same location more than 40 years ago

* All through sunday afternoon well-known and not-so-well-known gems of Krautrock/ProgRock will be played as sonic background

Das ZODIAK / The ZODIAC

KRAUTOPIA is going to invite you to a renowned location in Berlin: the former ZODIAC Free Arts Lab. This was the birthplace of the Berlin underground music and political scene in the late 1960s, where artists such as Klaus Schulze, Agitation Free, Manuel Göttsching and Ash Ra Tempel, Tangerine Dream, Cluster as well as others all started their international careers. At that time, the "Zodiac" (also known as "Zodiak") was a hip location where music, art and politics merged and where the so-called "Berlin School" of electronic KRAUTROCK was established ...

Krautopia started with an initiative to reactivate the place in June 2009.
Since that time we have organized and conducted numerous events at that location, such as free concerts, free movie screenings, a photo exhibition, readings, public talk shows etc. (see the posters above).

KRAUTOPIA hat mit diversen zurückliegenden Veranstaltungen einen sagenumwobenen Berliner Ort temporär reaktiviert: das ZODIAC (auch "ZODIAK Free Arts Lab"), den ersten Berliner Underground-Club, in dem sich Ende der 1960er-Jahre berühmt-berüchtigte Aktivisten aus Musik, Kunst und außerparlamentarischer Opposition trafen. Das "Haus der 12 Tierkreise" war offiziell ein Galerie-Restaurant und ansonsten ein überregional bekannter Treffpunkt für "Kommunarden, Künstler, Propheten, Dilettanten, professionelle Selbstdarsteller, Fixer, Rocker, Dealer, Brecher, Sensible, Esoteriker, Kaputte, Schläfer, Abgeschlaffte, Starke, Terroristen, Unpolitische". Hier, in der Ende der 1960er-Jahre berüchtigten Geburtsstätte des Berliner Underground, starteten international bekannte Musiker des elektronischen Krautrock ihre Karrieren, wie z.B. Klaus Schulze, Agitation Free, Manuel Göttsching und Ash Ra Tempel, Cluster, Tangerine Dream ...

Im ZODIAC begegneten und vermischten sich Musik, Kunst und Politik. Einige Gäste veröffentlichten Schallplatten, andere Gäste wurden auf Fahndungsplakaten veröffentlicht. Letztes Jahr filmte die BBC für ihre Doku "Krautrock" direkt vor Ort und zoomte auf das im Sommer 2009 aktuelle Plakat der ZODIAC-Veranstaltungsreihe am Eingang.

Seit Juni 2009, dem Beginn der ZODIAC-Reihe, hat KRAUTOPIA diverse Veranstaltungen im heutigen Wirtshaus am Ufer realisiert: Konzerte, Filmvorführungen, eine Foto-Ausstellung, Lesungen, Gesprächsrunden u.a. (siehe die Plakatauswahl oben).
